Description

In Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's In a Glass Darkly: Green Tea, the author utilizes a variety of narrative techniques to explore the psychological implications of supernatural forces on the protagonist. Through his use of metafiction, Le Fanu successfully conveys the concept that the human psyche is vulnerable to manipulation from forces beyond our understanding.

Author

Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814–1873) was an Irish master of Gothic fiction whose spectral tales raised the ghost story to a literary art. Carmilla preceded Dracula by a quarter-century and helped define vampire fiction; Uncle Silas sealed the locked-room inheritance thriller.
