Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott is a renowned American author and poet, best known for her semi-autobiographical novel Little Women. She was a prodigious writer of both fiction and non-fiction, and was an active participant in the Transcendentalist movement. Her works were greatly influenced by the social change that occurred during the 19th century in America, particularly in regards to women's rights. Raised in New England by her transcendentalist parents, Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott, she grew up among many well-known intellectuals of the day, including Margaret Fuller, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau.
