Description

The Masnavi is one of the most influential works of Sufism. It has been viewed by many commentators as the greatest mystical poem in world literature. It is a spiritual text that teaches Sufis how to reach their goal of being truly in love with God.This is the abridged Whinfield translation of the Masnavi.

Author

Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207–1273) was a Persian Sufi mystic and poet whose Masnavi and lyrics remain among the world's most loved spiritual literature. Forced west by Mongol advance, he settled in Konya and founded the Mevlevi tradition of whirling devotion. Rumi wrote of love as the path to the divine — intimate, ecstatic, and endlessly quotable in translation. The Masnavi in our catalogue opens that ocean of parable and longing.
