Description

Teresa maps the soul as a castle of seven mansions, from restless outer rooms to union with God through prayer and humility. Practical mysticism for the listener. Spoken as usable counsel when contemplation needs a clear path inward.

Author

Teresa of Avila (1515–1582) wrote the Interior Castle and reformed Carmelite life with a will as strong as her prayer. A Spanish nun, mystic, and later Doctor of the Church, she treated the inner journey as architecture: rooms of the soul, each demanding honesty. With John of the Cross she founded the Discalced Carmelites — contemplation with a reformer's backbone. Teresa's prose is vivid, funny, and unafraid of dry practicality.
