Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) invented Tarzan and John Carter and then refused to stop inventing. Jungle, Mars, Pellucidar, lost cities: he built a pulp engine that made adventure unapologetic and wildly popular. Tarzan leapt from novels into comics, film, and merchandising until the ape-man became a global icon; Barsoom gave science fantasy a desert romance and a swordsman's swagger.
