Description

Tommy Splint, a workhouse foundling, steers sailor Sam Blake through London toward Chimney-Pot Liz and the child she kept: Susy, whose garden sits on a rooftop above a garret. Friendship, poverty, and threat on the stairs press low life high up as they hunt Elizabeth Morley and a daughter lost in the city. Streets and a hidden green hold the heart of the search.
