Description

Australian Adam Salton is summoned by great-uncle Richard to Lesser Hill in Mercia, where inheritance and the Lambton Worm legend open into inexplicable horror. Stoker's dark romance of family legacy and a countryside that will not stay quiet. Spoken as when a welcome home still hides something older than the house.

Author

Bram Stoker (1847–1912) wrote Dracula and then had to live in its shadow. An Irishman in London, he kept Irving's theatre running by day and, by night, invented a vampire who travels by timetable and feeds on paperwork as much as blood. The novel is a collage of voices; the monster is organised. Later cinema gave him a look; Stoker gave him a method. Twenty titles sit here, most of them quieter than the one that named a genre.
