Description

Fleur and Jon fall in love at Robin Hill, unaware how their parents' old war still shadows them, until the next generation must choose between desire and the family's past. Spoken as when young love still inherits a quarrel it never started.

Author

John Galsworthy (1867–1933) helped shape the English novel's passage from Victorian certainties to twentieth-century doubt. A barrister who turned to literature in his thirties, he wrote with an insider's knowledge of the leisured classes and a reformer's impatience with their complacency. The Forsyte Saga made him famous — a multi-generational study of money, marriage, and the hunger to own.
