Description

"The Enchiridion" by Epictetus is a concise manual of Stoic philosophy, offering practical guidance for living a life of virtue and inner peace. Through sharp, direct teachings, Epictetus emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between what we can control—our thoughts, actions, and attitudes—and what lies beyond our power. He advocates for self-discipline, rationality, and detachment from external outcomes, urging readers to focus on their moral character rather than wealth, fame, or comfort. The work provides actionable advice on handling adversity, managing desires, and maintaining tranquility in the face of life’s challenges. A cornerstone of Stoicism, "The Enchiridion" serves as a timeless roadmap for personal growth, resilience, and ethical living, inspiring readers to cultivate wisdom and emotional mastery.

Author

Epictetus was a Greek-speaking Stoic philosopher. He lived in Rome until his banishment, when he went to Nicopolis in north-western Greece for the rest of his life. Epictetus taught that philosophy is a way of life and not just a theoretical discipline. To Epictetus, all external events are beyond our control; we should accept whatever happens calmly and dispassionately.
