Author

E. Nesbit (1858–1924) reinvented children's literature by letting magic walk into ordinary English life — leftover tea, railway platforms, and wishes that go wrong in the most practical ways. The Railway Children, the Bastable books, and the Psammead adventures taught young readers that wonder need not be solemn. Nesbit wrote as an adult who still remembered how children actually talk: funny, fierce, and rarely pious.
