This book contains English translation of the original classic Chinese text 'Tao Te Ching' forming foundation for both philosophical and religious Taoism. The roots of Taoism go back at least to the 4th century BCE. Early Taoism drew its cosmological notions from the School of Yinyang Naturalists.

Author

Lao Tzu — Laozi, the Old Master — is the name on the Tao Te Ching, a short Chinese classic of the Way, softness, and the art of not forcing. Biography is mostly legend: a keeper of archives who rode west and left a book at the pass. Scholars argue over the person; the poems do not mind. Three titles here, including facing-text English. The verses are brief; the afterlife of the book is not.
