Author

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894) gave adventure its modern bounce and the double life its household name. He was an Edinburgh lawyer's son who would not stay still: tuberculosis, canoes, Pacific islands, and sentences that never limp. Treasure Island taught boys (and everyone else) how a story should turn; Jekyll and Hyde taught adults how a conscience can. The essays are as alive as the yarns.
