Description

In a Swedish farming village, a fierce religious awakening tears through family and land. Neighbours who once shared harvests now face a harder choice: stay with the soil, or sell everything and follow a call to Jerusalem itself. Lagerl?f follows intertwined lives through faith, love, doubt, and the cost of leaving home for a holy city far from Dalarna. A human epic of conviction and belonging, spoken as warm narrative with stakes you feel in the chest.

Author

Selma Lagerlöf (1858–1940) wrote as Sweden's great storyteller — a novelist who could make a province feel like a kingdom and a goose flight feel like an epic. Her Nobel Prize in 1909 recognised not just achievement but imagination: a literature of idealism, compassion, and wonder. From the defrocked cavaliers of Gösta Berling to Nils Holgersson soaring above the map of Sweden, her books teach through delight rather than lecture.
