Description

Vyasa’s Mahabharata in idyll: gods, rishis, Gandharvas, Krishna as the one who binds a chain from life to death. Indian Idylls, The Big Nest ebook — English of a sacred epic’s episodes, virtue claimed for even a shloka. Not a complete critical Mahabharata. A Victorian doorway into the war, the devotion, the names. Hindu narrative as a house of stories. For readers who want the flavour of the great poem without pretending this is the Sanskrit. Idylls, not a textbook.

Author

Veda Vyasa — Vyasa of the Vedas — is the traditional compiler of the Mahabharata and the voice behind the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna's discourse to Arjuna between the two armies. Three titles here, including an abridged Ramayana and Mahabharata and The Song Celestial. The name marks a library more than a biography: epic, lyric, and a philosophy spoken on the eve of war.
