Description

Fraternity by John Galsworthy centers on Cecilia Dallison as she confronts questions of identity, empathy, and social duty within London society. Drawn to the struggles of a poor seamstress, she begins to question her privileged world. As relationships deepen and tensions rise, the novel explores class division, moral responsibility, and the limits of compassion.

Author

John Galsworthy (1867–1933) helped shape the English novel's passage from Victorian certainties to twentieth-century doubt. A barrister who turned to literature in his thirties, he wrote with an insider's knowledge of the leisured classes and a reformer's impatience with their complacency. The Forsyte Saga made him famous — a multi-generational study of money, marriage, and the hunger to own.
