Description

A miller’s kindness that ruins a linnet; a student selling the body as a bargain; a woman who needed a mystery more than a lover. This unabridged English hour sets Wilde’s Devoted Friend and Sphinx Without a Secret beside Chekhov’s Anyuta and Polinka — rented rooms, poverty, comedy with a bill attached. Fairy Tales for Adults Volume 1 is spoken for grown appetite: four tales, no gold-leaf moral, a bite you can hear. Contents with teeth, not a nursery lesson.

Author

Oscar Wilde (1854–1900) was born in Dublin, took a double first at Magdalen College, Oxford, and made conversation a form of literature. The Picture of Dorian Gray is the one novel — beauty, bargain, and a portrait that keeps the score. The Importance of Being Earnest is the comedy in which nothing is earnest except the jokes. Prison and exile followed the trials. Style was an ethic. Scandal became a second plot.
