Author

Johanna Spyri (1827–1901) wrote Heidi, the Swiss mountain story that made alpine air a moral climate. A Zürich pastor's daughter, she turned goats, grandfathers, and city rooms into a plot of homesickness and recovery that children still climb. Spyri wrote more than the one famous book: stories of Swiss village life, faith, and the difference a landscape can make to a character. Heidi's success was immediate and international.
