Thornton W. Burgess

Thornton W. Burgess (1874–1965) was a Massachusetts conservationist who taught children the woods through talking animals. Old Granny Fox, the Burgess Bird Book for Children, and the Animal Book made field knowledge feel like a neighbour's story. He wrote a daily newspaper column for decades and kept a sanctuary in his name. The tone is kindly, exact about habits, and still a door into the meadow.
