Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda (1863–1902) was born Narendranath Datta in Calcutta, became the foremost disciple of Ramakrishna, and in 1893 walked onto the platform of the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago as a world voice for Vedanta. Karma Yoga is the practical book of that mission: action without clinging, the street as ashram. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission and died young, having made Indian philosophy a public language in the West. The sentences are vigorous. The life was public on purpose.
