Annie Besant
Annie Besant was a prominent British theosophist, political activist, writer, orator and free thinker. She fought for the causes she thought were right, starting with freedom of thought, women's rights, workers' rights. Besant's intellectual journey had always involved a spiritual dimension, a quest for transformation of the whole person. Her notable works include The Nature and Practice of Yoga, Spirituality and Psychism, Thought Forms. She gave support to both Irish and Indian self-rule. She had been the first female president of the Indian National Congress in 1917.
