John Henry Hopkins (1792–1868) was an American Episcopal priest, writer, and hymn composer best remembered for We Three Kings of Orient Are — one of the best-loved Christmas carols in the English-speaking world. Written in 1857 for a Christmas pageant, the hymn's stately melody and vivid imagery have made it a seasonal standard ever since.
