Description

The Upanishads are a collection of ancient Hindu texts that form the basis of the Vedanta school of philosophy. The texts are mystical and contemplative in nature, and discuss topics such as the nature of Brahman (the ultimate reality) and the relationship between Atman (the soul) and Brahman. The Upanishads are considered to be some of the most important Hindu scriptures, and have exerted a profound influence on both Hindu thought and practice. Read in English, unabridged.

Author

Swami Paramananda (1884–1940) was an early Vedanta teacher in the United States, a disciple of the Ramakrishna–Vivekananda lineage who brought Upanishadic wisdom to American seekers. Mystic, poet, and builder of spiritual community, he translated and taught with a gentle clarity. The Upanishads in our catalogue reflect that bridge between Indian scripture and English-speaking devotion.
