Description

Miser Nicholas Snyders of Zandam swaps souls with young sailor Jan through a mysterious pedlar, and kindness and cruelty trade places overnight. Jerome's moral fable of identity and whether true change lives in the soul. Spoken as when greed and goodness switch bodies and neither man stays the same.

Author

Jerome K. Jerome (1859–1927) made English humour sound like a friend talking — ironic, lazy, and suddenly exact about human folly. Three Men in a Boat is his masterpiece: a mock-epic of river travel in which packing, weather, and wounded dignity become high adventure. Before and after it he wrote essays and sequels that celebrate idleness as a mild philosophy — Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow chief among them.
