Author

R. M. Ballantyne was an author and missionary who wrote adventure novels for children. Many of his books were set in the Scottish Highlands, and featured heroes who were brave and resourceful. Ballantyne's writing was praised for its exciting plots and accurate descriptions of nature. He was also an accomplished artist: he exhibited some of his water-colours at the Royal Scottish Academy.
