John Bunyan was an English Christian writer and preacher, the author of The Pilgrim's Progress, one of the most well know Christian allegory texts. John is recorded in the Elstow parish register as having been baptised on 30 November 1628. He is remembered in the Church of England with a Lesser Festival on 30 August, and on the liturgical calendar of the United States Episcopal Church on 29 August.
