Description

The Hungry Stones is a story about a group of individuals who find themselves in the middle of a barren wasteland, where they pine for anything to quench their hunger. They come across stones that appear to be edible and start eating them, which turns out to be disastrous. Tagore uses this story to illustrate how we can end up starving ourselves with desires that are impossible to fulfill.

Author

Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) wrote Gitanjali and made a world listen to Bengal. Poet, songwriter, playwright, and founder of Santiniketan, he was the first non-European Nobel laureate in literature. The English Gitanjali is a doorway; the Bengali work is a city. He composed songs that became national anthems and argued, politely and without pause, for a modern India that could still sing. Fourteen titles here.
