Epictetus advocates for inner freedom, urging readers to detach from material desires, societal pressures, and fears, particularly of death or misfortune. The teachings highlight the value of virtue as the sole good, offering timeless wisdom on resilience, humility, and living in harmony with nature. Accessible yet profound, "The Golden Sayings" serves as a practical guide to cultivating mental strength and moral integrity, inspiring readers to navigate life’s challenges with clarity and purpose.

Author

Epictetus was a Greek-speaking Stoic philosopher. He lived in Rome until his banishment, when he went to Nicopolis in north-western Greece for the rest of his life. Epictetus taught that philosophy is a way of life and not just a theoretical discipline. To Epictetus, all external events are beyond our control; we should accept whatever happens calmly and dispassionately.
