Description

Lost in a blinding northern snowstorm, Alvery Craye stumbles into isolated Kelpieshaw, where a mysterious copper box sits at the heart of dangerous secrets. Strangers gather with stolen identities and deadly motives until deception and peril fill the lonely house. Gripping border mystery with cold, twists, and no safe room. Spoken as when the copper box still asks what a storm will deliver to a lonely door.

Author

J. S. Fletcher (1863–1935) treated the detective story as a trade, and honoured it. He produced at a Victorian-Edwardian pace that later Golden Age writers would recognise: wills, country houses, city chambers, and the long English suspicion that respectability is a costume. Fletcher is not flashy. He is reliable — which, in crime fiction, is a kind of style.
