Author

Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835–1910), river pilot, Nevada journalist, and the writer who turned American talk into literature. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer gave boyhood its permanent stage; Adventures of Huckleberry Finn put a runaway child and a fugitive slave on the Mississippi and asked what conscience sounds like when the law is wrong. He lectured across America and Europe, lost fortunes, and kept writing.
