Description

"Jack the Giant-Killer" is a retelling of the classic fairy tale by Flora Steel. The story follows a young man named Jack who is known for his bravery and cunning. When a giant threatens his village, Jack sets out to defeat the giant and save his people. Along the way, he meets a fairy who grants him three wishes, which he uses to defeat the giant and reclaim the stolen treasure. But with his newfound wealth and fame, Jack becomes arrogant and neglects the people who care about him, including his mother. He soon realizes that the fairy's gifts came with a curse, and that true happiness cannot be bought with wealth. With the help of his old friends and a newfound sense of humility, Jack must find a way to break the curse and rediscover the importance of family and true friendship.

Author

Flora Annie Steel (1847–1929) wrote of India and of English folklore — fairy tales, legends, and novels from years spent in the Punjab. St. George of Merrie England and the story collections in our catalogue show a storyteller who moved between empire and nursery with a collector's ear. Sixteen titles make a generous Sovereign shelf of tale and history.
