Description

In "Discourse on the Method," René Descartes lays the foundation for modern philosophical inquiry and the quest for knowledge through skepticism and doubt. With meticulous reasoning, Descartes dismantles the edifice of accepted truths to build a new understanding of reality based on clear and distinct ideas. His famous declaration, "I think, therefore I am," encapsulates the essence of this transformative work. Descartes invites us on a profound journey to question, reason, and ultimately seek the truth about our existence.

Author

René Descartes was a French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist. A native of the Kingdom of France, he spent about 20 years of his life in the Dutch Republic after serving for a while in the Dutch States Army of Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange and the Stadtholder of the United Provinces. One of the most notable intellectual figures of the Dutch Golden Age, Descartes is also widely regarded as one of the founders of modern philosophy.
