Through dialogue, three philosophers named Demea, Philo, and Cleanthes debate the nature of God's existence. Author

David Hume (1711–1776) was a Scottish philosopher and historian whose skeptical intelligence reshaped modern thought. In works such as A Treatise of Human Nature and the Enquiries, he questioned how we know what we know — and how habit, perception, and custom shape belief. Hume's lucid style and willingness to follow argument wherever it leads made him one of the clearest and most influential minds of the Enlightenment.
