Description

Late Imperial Russia as a stage for ideas that seize people like spirits — idealism, rationalism, materialism, socialism, anarchism, nihilism, atheism. Evil here is the hunger for power, and the novel watches what happens when those abstractions take on human hosts. A political and spiritual reckoning in the author’s own language.
