Description

Apollonius walks the first century as sage, healer, and scandal. Mead’s esoteric life, drawn through Philostratus and Theosophical interest, follows a Pythagorean holy man across temples and wonders — biography as initiation narrative, philosophy with miracles attached. Disciple-scholar tone: travel, abstinence, the rumour of power, a rival pattern of holiness later set beside the Gospels.

Author

G. R. S. Mead (1863–1933) was an English historian and translator who opened Hermetic, Gnostic, and Neoplatonic texts to a modern readership. A prominent Theosophist and later founder of the Quest Society, he treated ancient wisdom as living literature rather than museum dust. Pistis Sophia, his studies of Hermes, and related works in our catalogue show a scholar who wanted the hidden traditions of late antiquity to speak clearly in English.
