Description

Benedict Spinoza's 'A Theologico-Political Treatise' challenges prevailing religious and political dogmas of his time. With bold reasoning, Spinoza advocates for intellectual freedom, questioning the role of theology in governance. This seminal work lays the groundwork for secularism, advocating for a state where reason prevails over religious authority. A visionary treatise, it remains a cornerstone in discussions on freedom, politics, and the separation of church and state. Read in English, unabridged.

Author

Benedict Spinoza (1632–1677), Baruch Spinoza, was the philosopher of Ethics and the Theologico-Political Treatise — a lens-grinder who argued for God as nature, freedom as understanding, and a politics of tolerance. Expelled from his community, he wrote with geometric calm about the most dangerous ideas in Europe. Our catalogue carries that radical Enlightenment in English.
