Common Yellowthroat

The common yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas) is a small migratory warbler of marshes and wet thickets, the male a yellow throat with a black mask, the song often heard as wichity-wichity-wichity from a high stalk. In Ambient recordings from Iowa's Yellow River State Forest beside a babbling stream, that phrase sits with thrushes, jays, and woodpeckers — wetland weather for mindfulness, no field-guide lecture, only the mask in the reeds.
