Lew Wallace

Lew Wallace (1827–1905) was a Union general, governor of New Mexico Territory, and the novelist of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. The chariot race made a century of spectacle; the book is also a Victorian meditation on faith, revenge, and Rome. Three titles here, the same sea of story. A soldier who learned that a novel can outlast a campaign.
