Evelyn Underhill

Evelyn Underhill (1875–1941) was an English Anglo-Catholic writer whose Mysticism (1911) became the century's most read introduction to the inner life of Christian prayer. King's College London trained the scholar; retreats and quiet direction trained the guide. Pacifist, poet, and patient teacher, she wrote of contemplation as ordinary weather for an attentive soul — not escape from the world, but a clearer way of standing in it.
