George S. Schuyler (1895–1977) was an African American journalist and satirist whose novel Black No More turns race into a science-fiction joke with a blade in it. Harlem Renaissance outsider and later conservative gadfly, he wrote with a reporter's bite. The book remains a startling American satire: what if colour could be switched off?
