Saki

Saki (1870–1916), the pen name of H. H. Munro, wrote English short stories of wicked poise — Beasts and Super-Beasts, the Clovis chronicles, and The Unbearable Bassington. His humour is dry, sudden, and slightly cruel: drawing rooms where the wild thing wins. Munro died in the First World War; the stories still feel like a raised eyebrow that never quite lowers.
