Apollonius Rhodius

Apollonius Rhodius (3rd century BCE) wrote the Argonautica, the surviving Greek epic of Jason, Medea, and the quest for the Golden Fleece. Scholar-poet of Alexandria, he gave Hellenistic epic a psychological subtlety that later Latin poets, especially Virgil, studied closely. The Argonautica remains adventure and love story in one — gods, ships, and a heroine who will not be simple.
