Petronius

Petronius (d. c. 66 CE), often identified with Nero's elegant arbiter of taste, is the reputed author of the Satyricon — a fragmentary Latin novel of banquets, hustlers, and comic decadence. Its most famous episode, Trimalchio's feast, still defines Roman excess for modern readers. The Satyricon is satire with appetite: rude, brilliant, and incomplete in a way that feels oddly modern.
