Silvanus P. Thompson

Silvanus P. Thompson (1851–1916) was an English physicist and electrical engineer whose Calculus Made Easy remains one of the friendliest introductions to the subject ever printed. A Fellow of the Royal Society and gifted teacher, he believed difficult ideas should be made clear without being watered down. The book still rescues students who thought differentials were a closed door.
