Joseph Mohr

Joseph Mohr (1792–1848) was an Austrian Catholic priest who wrote the words to Silent Night. Composed for a Christmas Eve service in Oberndorf, the carol travelled from a small church to the world — a lullaby of peace that still opens the season for millions. Mohr's lyric is simple on purpose: holy night, calm, and a child, without ornament that would get in the way of singing.
