Kabir

Kabir (c. 15th century) was an Indian mystic poet whose songs of devotion and dissent still speak across Hindu and Muslim traditions. Writing in a vernacular of everyday images — loom, river, clay pot — he mocked empty ritual and pointed toward an inward, undivided truth. The Songs of Kabir carry that voice into English: blunt, musical, and spiritually impatient with pretence.
