Blue Jay

The blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is a bold, intelligent corvid of eastern and central North America, unmistakable in blue, white, and black with a raised crest. Its calls — harsh screams, musical whistles, and uncanny mimicry of hawks — are among the most familiar voices of deciduous forest and suburban woodland. Birders often locate jays by ear first: loud, curious, and impossible to ignore.
