W. W. Jacobs

W. W. Jacobs (1863–1943) was an English short-story writer best remembered for The Monkey's Paw — a compact horror tale of wishes gone wrong that still chills. Much of his other fiction is maritime comedy: barge life, sailors' yarns, and the gentle absurdities of coastal England. Collections such as The Lady of the Barge and Sailor's Knots show his gift for pace, atmosphere, and a twist held until the last page. Jacobs wrote popular entertainment with a craftsman's care.
