Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins (1859–1930) was an African American novelist, journalist, and editor whose fiction explored race, identity, and hidden history with bold imagination. Of One Blood: The Hidden Self is among the most remarkable works of early Black speculative and political fiction — a novel of ancestry, science, and African diasporic connection. Hopkins was a pioneering voice in American literature whose work is now rightly receiving renewed attention.
