Hubert Henry Harrison (1883–1927) was a Caribbean-born writer, orator, and intellectual known as a founding figure of Harlem radicalism. A fierce critic of racism and colonialism, he lectured widely on history, science, and Black self-determination. When Africa Awakes reflects his belief that awakening political consciousness was essential to liberation. Harrison's clarity and courage made him one of the most influential voices of the early twentieth-century freedom struggle.
