Northern Harrier

The northern harrier (Circus hudsonius) is a slender hawk of open country, marshes, and windy grasslands across North America and Eurasia. Its low, gliding flight — wings held in a shallow V — and distinctive white rump make it one of the easier raptors to pick out in the field. Birders often locate it by ear first: a quick, chattering call or the soft wing-rush of a hunt just above the reeds. In Ambient recordings, the harrier adds open-air movement and wild focus to forest and wetland soundscapes.
